What is Mahakumbh?
Mahakumbh is a major Hindu religious festival held every 144 years. This is the biggest and most important form of Kumbh Mela. Devotees gather to take a ritual bath at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers, to wash away their sins and attain salvation.

Spiritual Significance: Devotees believe that bathing in these holy rivers can wash away past sins and break the cycle of rebirth.
Scale: Attracts nearly 390 million pilgrims, making it the largest religious gathering in the world.

Magh Mela: Organized every year
Ardha Kumbh: Occurs every 6 years
Puran Kumbh: Occurs every 12 years
Mahakumbha: Occurs every 144 years
Why is this so important?
It is a deeply spiritual event, rooted in Hindu mythology. Bathing in the rivers during Mahakumbh offers purification of the soul, liberation from sins and liberation from the cycle of rebirth. It is reminiscent of the mythical churning of the ocean (Samundar Manthan), which produced the divine elixir of immortality.

Mahakumbh Mela 2025 will be held at Triveni Sangam, one of the holiest places in Hinduism, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh,India.
When does it begin?
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 will begin on January 13, 2025 with the Posh Poornima Sanan (holy bath).
When will it end?
It will expire on February 26, 2025 in a period of about 1.5 months.
